Blimey sponsors the Recognising Rushcliffe Awards 2017

The results are in…

Last week saw several members of the Blimey team head to The Becket School for the Recognising Rushcliffe Awards 2017. A ceremony designed to honour and celebrate those within the borough (in which Blimey also resides) for their acts of kindness, generosity and bravery, it was truly remarkable to be there and hear the stories that had given them their nomination.

Blimey Creative was specifically sponsoring the Young Achiever Award. It is a category close to our hearts, as the company strives to present young people with more opportunities in the workplace. The people nominated were all incredibly deserving, as the biographies below clearly show. We certainly couldn’t have decided who should win!

Shriya Kancharlapalli

A straight A student, Shriya puts her hard work to use inside and outside of school – and cites others as her motivation. The 16-year—old Rushcliffe School student is predicted top grades in her upcoming GCSEs. But she also tutors primary school pupils in maths and English, making sure others benefit from her abilities. Indian-born Shriya explained: “The motivation I get is from my parents and other people around me. I want to work hard for them so I can have a bright future.”

Payam Soleimani-Nouri

With outstanding academic achievements and a heart of gold, it is not hard to see how Payam came to be nominated for a Young Achiever Award. He gained A* grades in his A levels in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Physics, as well as As in AS Further Maths and in his Extended Project Qualification. But it doesn’t end there. Payam is also a community asset. He runs astronomy sessions for young people and offers free mentoring for GCSE students. Perhaps most beneficial of all is his work with the Young People of the Year befriending scheme, where young people meet and befriend older people with dementia.

Eva Shaw

An exceptional young tennis champion, Eva manages to balance her sporting achievements with her school commitments. Eva is a member of the Nottingham Tennis Centre’s Under 12 team, which placed third in the country at the AEGON County Cup Finals in July this year. She won both her single and doubles match on day one and on the second day, defeated Kent’s top player and beat a very experienced opponent comprehensively to take her team into the lead. Eva’s achievements led to her becoming an individual recipient of Sport Grant Aid Funding for 2016-17 from Nottinghamshire County Council.

Joni Wildman and Lola Smith

As members of Rushcliffe Clinical Commissioning Group’s Patient Cabinet, Joni and Lola have been invaluable in ensuring young people’s issues are properly understood and represented. Their contributions have included helping the Patient Experience Team to develop a young people’s version of the 3 Questions initiative, which helps patients to become more informed and active within their care. As final year A-level students, the pair are keen to plan for new recruits to keep young people within the cabinet’s awareness.

Although all worthy of an award for their tireless dedication to the community, there could only be one winner. Therefore, we would, once again, like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Payam Soleimani-Nouri for taking the Young Achiever Award home. The team at Blimey Creative could not have been more amazed and touched by your work with those suffering from dementia and we were more than impressed by your school results. We wish you all the best in your university studies!
